Looking back

We had a great time at Heritage Park on Tuesday! We had so much fun exploring the past! 


In UFLI this week we continued to learn about vowel teams. This week we learned about /ie/ and /igh/ and then we did a review. 


We were very excited to learn how to log into the computers and finish up our animal research. We even did a guided drawing with our buddies using our own computers.



Thank you for sending all of your adorable pictures in. We had a lot of fun trying to guess who in our class matched the baby pictures!


We also worked very hard on our Father’s Day cards. Inside you will find a special surprise. Scan the QR code and see what happens!


Thank you for those that already brought in a shoebox. We will be starting our projects on Monday so please bring one in on Monday (or extra if you are willing to share). Since we will be creating animal habitats with them, your child may wish to supplement the materials we will have at school with their own items found in nature. Students should think about what types of things their animal should see (ie. rocks, moss, sticks, etc..)

Welcome back!

Looking ahead We hope everyone had a restful spring break! We are in the home stretch of Grade One with lots of exciting learning ahead! This week in UFLI we learned about the spelling pattern __ge as well as learning about some exceptions to the ‘bossy e’ rule (i.e. some, live, love, have). We brought home a new game to practice __ce and __ge in our UFLI folder to try out this week! Please return these folders every Thursday! We are so excited that our student teachers Ms. Gunson and Ms. Jardie will be teaching us math over the next few weeks! Pumpkin Week!

November 3, 2023 We had a very busy week with much excitement around pumpkin investigations and Halloween activities! Looking Back This week, we focused on word families with the superstar vowel short /o/. The word families we practiced ended with the letter combinations __ot, __og, __ob, __op. . The words we focused on this week were: was, no, go, also, saw, to. The song for this week was “The Pumpkin Life Cycle Song.” We had a fantastic time singing together and creating actions. Ask your child if they can tell you how the pumpkin life cycle works. We did several creative projects this week, including drawing and writing about what our teachers should be for Halloween, predicting what will happen at the end of a story and playing a fun guessing game with our word families. In math, we continued to practice representing numbers using tallies, ten frames and other strategies. Time to do Research!

  Looking Back This week in UFLI we continued to talk about vowel teams. We learned that the long i sound can be spelled using 2 different vowel teams, ‘igh,’ ‘ie.’ We learned that igh is usually in the middle or at the end of a word and that ‘ie’ comes at the end of words. We did lots of practice in order to become more familiar with spelling words with this rule. There is only 1 reading passage in our UFLI folder this week in order to practice this skill. In science we started our animal research! We used the computer to go onto pebblego and look up our animal as well as using our non-fiction books to fill in our research page. We also went onto arthub to do a nice guided drawing of our animal. We will be finishing these up next week.  We also finished up our plant work by painting our root vegetables art.
