We are learning about respect!

Friday, November 24, 2023 Apologies for the late posting of the blog!  It was wonderful to see everyone at our parent conferences today and last night. We really appreciate you taking the time to come in and see how your child is progressing. We are very excited to see the learning that is happening in all of your children.  We welcomed Ms. Gunson and Ms. Jardie into our classrooms on Monday. They have already developed great relationships with the students and the kids are thrilled to have them! This week we focused on the word families _ip,  _ig, _in, _it . The words we practiced were: look, live, with, why, my, by. A small list of these words came home with your child on Monday so they can be practiced at home. Please also continue to send your child’s ziplock bag in to school everyday so that they may choose a new book to read at home and have their bag for important notices being sent home. Thank you! We started our preparations for our holiday learning assembly which will tak

Friday, November 17, 2023 Looking Back This week we focused on the word families _ut and _ug . The words we practiced were: tell, well, will, have, put. A small list of these words came home with your child on Wednesday so they can be practiced at home. Please also continue to send your child’s ziplock bag in to school everyday so that they may choose a new book to read at home and have their bag for important notices being sent home. Thank you! We had fun putting many of the nursery rhymes we have learned together into a song with a new alphabet rhyme in between. Ask your child if they can sing the new alphabet song for you. Hint: it has 2 claps after ‘m’ and 2 claps after ‘z.’ We wrote about our fall break on Wednesday and some students were able to share in the author’s chair. On Thursday, we worked together to write a letter to send off with our Alphabet Exchange in the mail. We each signed the letter and put it together with our created letters. Mrs. Janisse’s class is sending

A short but busy week!

Friday November 9, 2023 Apologies for the delayed post! Totally forgot yesterday :) Looking back This week we focused on the word families __et and __ed . The words we practice were: he, we, me, be, she, want, of . You may have noticed a word list in your child’s homereading bag or in their backpacks. Going forward we will be sending home the words of the week so they can be practiced at home. These words are words that are seen everywhere in books as well as in their writing. Learning to read these words quickly will increase your child’s reading fluency. We appreciate your support in practicing these words at home. Thank you also for sending your child’s book and bag back to school everyday so they can choose a new book and have their bag for important notices being sent home.  In writing we wrote about things that we did on the weekend. We talked about different ways we could start a sentence to describe the activities we took part in. Our writing is really coming along! We are ver

Pumpkin Week!

November 3, 2023 We had a very busy week with much excitement around pumpkin investigations and Halloween activities! Looking Back This week, we focused on word families with the superstar vowel short /o/. The word families we practiced ended with the letter combinations __ot, __og, __ob, __op. . The words we focused on this week were: was, no, go, also, saw, to. The song for this week was “The Pumpkin Life Cycle Song.” We had a fantastic time singing together and creating actions. Ask your child if they can tell you how the pumpkin life cycle works. We did several creative projects this week, including drawing and writing about what our teachers should be for Halloween, predicting what will happen at the end of a story and playing a fun guessing game with our word families. In math, we continued to practice representing numbers using tallies, ten frames and other strategies. We played a fun game called Pumpkin Bump to practice these skills.  In Science, we investigated the life cycle
