We are learning about respect!

Apologies for the late posting of the blog!

It was wonderful to see everyone at our parent conferences today and last night. We really appreciate you taking the time to come in and see how your child is progressing. We are very excited to see the learning that is happening in all of your children.

We welcomed Ms. Gunson and Ms. Jardie into our classrooms on Monday. They have already developed great relationships with the students and the kids are thrilled to have them!

This week we focused on the word families _ip,  _ig, _in, _it. The words we practiced were: look, live, with, why, my, by. A small list of these words came home with your child on Monday so they can be practiced at home. Please also continue to send your child’s ziplock bag in to school everyday so that they may choose a new book to read at home and have their bag for important notices being sent home. Thank you!

We started our preparations for our holiday learning assembly which will take place on December 14. We learned a poem and started learning one of our songs. We hope everyone can make it on that day!

We continued our discussion about the Grandfather Teaching of Respect. We watched a short video and drew pictures and wrote words in our visual journal of different ways we can show respect. We talked about how we can show respect to adults, our pets, the earth and even ourselves! Since the animal that represents respect in Indigenous culture is the buffalo we decided to do an art project representing the buffalo. We painted the background and used a fork to paint the wheat fields. It was messy but fun! We then talked about how indigenous people often use natural resources for many different things. We decided to use coffee to paint our buffalos. The end product was amazing and we were happy you got to see them at parent conferences.

In math we continued our talk about number lines and practiced using them on paper and during math talks. We also started an anchor chart which will show all the different ways we can represent numbers. We will be using this to work on a project that we will start next week.

Looking ahead

Please return library books for Tuesday book exchange.
