Pumpkin Week!

November 3, 2023

We had a very busy week with much excitement around pumpkin investigations and Halloween activities!

Looking Back

This week, we focused on word families with the superstar vowel short /o/. The word families we practiced ended with the letter combinations __ot, __og, __ob, __op.. The words we focused on this week were: was, no, go, also, saw, to. The song for this week was “The Pumpkin Life Cycle Song.” We had a fantastic time singing together and creating actions. Ask your child if they can tell you how the pumpkin life cycle works.

We did several creative projects this week, including drawing and writing about what our teachers should be for Halloween, predicting what will happen at the end of a story and playing a fun guessing game with our word families.

In math, we continued to practice representing numbers using tallies, ten frames and other strategies. We played a fun game called Pumpkin Bump to practice these skills.

In Science, we investigated the life cycle of a pumpkin and began creating a mini book about the pumpkin life cycle. We will finish this work next week. We measured the pumpkins in our classroom in 2 different ways. We also decided to try to continue the pumpkin life cycle using our pumpkins. Mrs. Webber’s class dug seeds out of our pumpkin and planted them and Mrs. Janisse’s class put dirt inside the pumpkin. We are excited to see if any sprouts appear over the next couple of weeks.

Looking ahead

Just a reminder there is no school from Nov. 9-14 for our fall break. School will resume on Wednesday November 15.

On November 8 we will be having a Remembrance Day assembly to honour those that have fought for our country.

Library day will be on Tuesday. Please return your library book in order to sign out a new one.

Please return all colourful paper books that we have sent home with your child for home reading. We are noticing a lot of bags coming back empty and we want to ensure all our materials are accounted for. Thanks so much for your cooperation with this!
