Happy Spring Break!

Looking Back

We are excited to welcome back our student teachers! Ms. Jardie (Mrs. Janisse) and Ms. Gunson (Mrs. Webber) will be with us until the end of April!

This week in UFLI we reviewed the long vowel sounds that we have been practicing and learned about the spelling pattern _ce. We learned that when a word ends with ‘ce’ the /s/ sound is made. We added a roll and read game to our UFLI folder to practice this new concept over the break, along with 2 new decodable passages to read. Thank you so much for your support and practicing with your child. Just a reminder to return the orange folders on Thursday so we can add new materials.

We arrived on Monday to a very messy classroom! Ask your child to tell you what happened. We wrote about the mess and all the things we noticed had happened to our leprechaun traps that we left out over the weekend.

In Math, we worked on an open-ended subtraction problem about seals. Below is a link to an online game connected to this problem which the students are keen to show you at home.

We reviewed 2-D shapes with our student teachers and completed a few fun activities to practice these shapes and their attributes. After the break, we will be learning about 3-D shapes and their attributes.

In Social Studies, we learned 2 new fancy words: urban and rural. Ask your child to tell you what they mean. We learned a fun song to practice the meaning of these words. We collaborated to create an “urban” community and a “rural” community outside our classroom with a road driving from one to the other. In the middle, we made our houses to put in the “suburban” community. We had a lot of fun with this project!

Looking Forward

Just a reminder that next week is Spring Break! We are not back at school until Tuesday April 2. Please ensure library books are returned that day as it’s been a couple weeks since they have been able to choose a book!
