Sorry I forgot to hit "publish".....

Looking Back

This week we focused on the digraphs /wh/ and /th/. Our words this week were when, what, which, her, are, they. Thank you for continuing to practice at home using the small paper that comes home at the beginning of the week. Please also continue to send your child’s ziplock bag in to school everyday so that they may choose a new book to read at home and have their bag for important notices being sent home. Thank you!

In math, we learned about 2-D shapes and played a fun guessing game where students had to figure out the shape they could feel by describing the attributes or properties of the shape. We had a visit from Zero the Hero on the 60th day of school (Wednesday) and he brought us a game with a focus on identifying 2-D shapes in the real world.

In Science, we continued our work on matter and learned about changing properties this week. We practiced different ways to change our playdough by stretching, cutting, breaking and bending. We learned that even though the properties change, the material itself never changes….it’s still playdough!

In art this week we made some beautiful creations representing the northern lights. We learned about how the northern lights are made and looked at some pictures and videos of real northern lights. We then used pastel and paint to make our northern light scenes. They are beautiful!

Thank you to those that have sent in their holiday traditions. It is so fun to hear about the different activities that families do together! If your child has not had a chance to share yet we will continue next week. There is still time to send in a tradition!

Looking Ahead

Next week will be the final week to exchange books until the new year. Please bring books back by Tuesday so your child can get a new one.

A letter was sent home yesterday talking about our Stone Soup activity on Friday. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about this.

We are hoping to collect some sunglasses that we can use for one of our songs on Thursday. If you have any “cheap” (i.e. sponsored giveaways, etc.) sunglasses that you could send in this week it would be much appreciated! We will be sure to label them with your child’s name and return them to you after the show.

Our Holiday Assembly week is finally here! We are so excited to show you the selection of poems and songs we have been working on for the last few weeks. Just a reminder that assembly times are 8:15 and 1:15 and will take place in the west wing stage area.
