Fall Treasures!

 October 6, 2023

Apologies for the Saturday morning blog this week! I forgot to press the button that makes it possible for all of you to see it on Friday!

Thank you everyone who was able to attend our 3 Left Feet performance. We had a fantastic time learning and dancing during our Dance Residency over the past 2 weeks! Thank you again to Parent Council for providing this learning opportunity.

Looking Back

This week, our weekly words were: can, you. The sounds we practiced were u, k, s, x, p. Thank you for reviewing and practicing these with your child at home using the paper book they brought home from school today. During our printing practice this week, we wrote sentences that started with “Can you see the_____?” We learned the difference between an asking sentence and a telling sentence and practiced printing a question mark at the end of our asking sentences.

Our poem this week was “The Turkey is a Funny Bird.” We enjoyed practicing it by taking turns and using different voices. Ask your child if they can do the actions for you that we made up together. It goes like this:

The turkey is a funny bird.

Its head goes wobble, wobble.

And all it knows is just one word:

“Gobble, gobble, gobble!”

In math, we finished up our work on patterns by learning how to translate patterns from one thing to another. We noticed that there are many different ways to make a pattern with the same pattern core (e.g. ABB). We played a fun partner game where one partner created a pattern with actions and the other partner translated it into pattern blocks. We have been working during calendar time on representing numbers in different ways and will be jumping into learning about counting in different ways and representing numbers over the coming weeks.

In Science, we took a close look at some of the nature’s treasures that the students brought in this week.  Thank you for finding so many beautiful leaves and amazing fall treasures! We read a story called “Leaf Man” and decided to make our own creations using the fall treasures that we brought in. We created amazing animals, people and other items out of fall treasures.
